Program
At First Step, we provide a safe, nurturing environment designed specifically for the needs of a young child. Our program encourages children to play, discover and learn. We offer each child a balance of experiences in several key developmental areas: cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual. Through a carefully prepared curriculum and carefully selected materials, each child is equipped and encouraged to grow in a Christian-based environment.
Our programming includes both planned and spontaneous activities in response to the interest of the children. Regular experiences with art, language, music, movement, fine/gross motor play, dramatic play, and building are part of our daily curriculum. Snacks and routines in physical care promote the child’s health, comfort and ability to care for him or herself. We allow maximum flexibility to the children as an individual and as a group.
Two-Year Olds
Our two-year old program provides the opportunity for younger children to expand their world in a nurturing environment which emphasizes play and social interaction. Two’s are introduced to simple, structured activities and concepts. We currently offer a two day per week schedule Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:15 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.. All children must be 2-years-old to start the program.
Three-Year Olds
Our three-year old program provides a warm, caring social environment which fosters a three year-old’s growing independence, curiosity and explorations. Music, stories, art, gross motor play and games provide a stimulating environment. We currently offer a three day per week schedule Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:15 a.m.- 12:15 p.m. All children must be 3 by December 31 and toilet trained.
Four and Five-Year Olds
Our four and five year old program encourages children to build upon their natural curiosity through exploration and discovery in a social setting. Math, phonics, science and writing skills are introduced and taught through fun, creative activities and games. We offer a four day program Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays. Thursdays (Fridays available for five-year olds) from 9:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. All children must be 4 by December 31 and toilet trained.
Breakfast Bunch (8:15 - 9:15 a.m.)) and Lunch Bunch (12:15 – 1:30 p.m.) programs are also available for 3 and 4-year old children.
School Hours & Schedule
Two-Year Olds M, W from 9:15 - 11:45 a.m.
Three-Year Olds M,W,F from 9:15 - 12:15 p.m.
Four and Five-Year Olds M, T, W, R (F for Fives) from 9:15 - 12:15 p.m.
Breakfast Bunch 8:15 – 9:15 a.m.
Lunch Bunch 12:15 – 1:30 p.m.
First Step operates from September to June and generally follows the Wilton Public School Calendar.
Admission Policy First Step Pre-School admits students of any race, creed, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities made available to students at the school.
